The Comic Strip Presents…
I’m so glad my sister bought me The Comic Strip Presents box set for Christmas. Thats over 26 hours worth. I’m still only on disc 2 but I’ve alreday seen, for the first time in 20 years, both the Five Go Mads, Bad News Tour, Dirty Movie and a Fistful of Travellers Cheques. I’ve still got Slags, Private Enterprise, The Strike, Mr Jolly Lives Next Door and GLC to come.
Looking at the transmission dates I must have been about 11 or 12 when most of these were shown but (unless they were repeated years later) my Dad used to let me stay up and watch them. Looking at them now I see the hundreds of jokes and adult themes I missed at the time. What I also realise is that these episodes are actually just short films, and have to be looked at as such. There are different styles of comedy and drama in each one, which is going to make watching all 9 DVDs much more entertaining.
Anyway, you can get this for £30 at Amazon.co.uk, which is a real bargain.
I think I saw something about that on BBC THREE the other day – with Rik Mayall maybe?
nice, can i borrow them please?
Sure, watched disk 1 & 2 so I’ll drop them over at some point.
Gavin, you may have seen their new short film called Sex Actually. It had Rik Mayall and Nigel Planer in it but most of the usual cast were not there. It was still quite entertaining though, if not a classic. Else, it may have been a documentary.
Yes, that was it. Very odd, but entertaining…
i like the bit in ‘Five go mad in Dorset’ when Robbie Coltrane squeezes Jennifer Saunders breast and at the same time says ” you remind me of one of my little nieces” !!! proper child abuse…….
j.
He hasn’t changed much in 24 years has he.
I’ll drop round disk two tomorrow!
