Semi-Ethical Shopping
Semi-Ethical as it doesn’t concern the animals at all – its more about local farmers. Its just my attempt to buy less at the supermarket and more at local shops with locally produced food stuffs (I love that term). So recently I have been buying all my meat, which is often chopped up in front of you, from the butchers. It actually works out cheaper, and you get the cuts you want, and its much fresher and tastier. And I can get my herbs, spices and pork stock cubes at the Thai shop too!

The you can hit the Open Market itself and pick up the best and cheapest bacon and eggs around, all locally culled and laid. Sid’s fish stall is great – he’ll give you some good recipes if you ask and its all local fish.

Finally I pick up my fruit and veg there. The only thing I picked up at the supermarket was an emergency Fray Bentos pie, a chicken fahita kit, bog roll, kidney beans, bread, cheese and baked beans.
So its not exactly saving the planet, nor bringing down capitalism, but its a much better experience than shopping in Somerfield.
