Moshi Moshi - Nu Sounds from Japan 2x12" (Fuego Records)

Brilliant NuJazz and house compilation featuring 4 Hero and MAW.
A review by Jon Freer: "Japanese releases are often extortionately expensive and incredibly hard to get hold of in the western world. Nik Weston, an infamous collector and promoter of music from this country has come to the aid of the listening public, compiling a selection of past and future classic Japanese cuts. Bringing the music of the country to a wider audience, “Moshi Moshi” represents a wealth of talent from big names and unknowns. The ‘Soljazz instrumental’ of the gorgeously named Gagle’s “Practise & Tactix” is stylish Jazz Hop, with a distressed string workout, disjointed rough and ready percussion, an over- zealous reverbing bass and charming keys. New York’s spiritual master Osunlade, pops up to remix the revered UFO’s “Listen Love”. He uses a heart-stopping piano, saddened vocals that have come to terms with the truth and fly away strings on his ‘Yoruba Soul Mix’, which is a divine journey into deepness. In my eyes the best Japanese producer of them all, Calm, supplies “De- tuned Atmosphere” under his Organ Language guise. An intriguing flute, emphatic beaten percussion, a transporting amazing synth and teary-eyed keys combine to produce another classic Calm moment. Notorious Techno don Ken Ishii rounds things off with “Awakening”, perhaps initially a surprising choice, one listen to the rushing keys, backwards acid key work and hot foot percussion makes everything crystal clear. This is just the tip of a gigantic musical iceberg."
