Very early rare NuJazz compilation.
A review by George Lees: "An encyclopaedia of strange vibrations and obscure noises, the Dope On Plastic series has been cataloguing the best moments in trip-hop since its inception. Volume One, which was released back in 1994, is a collection of blunted rhythms that provide an interesting insight into the previous generation of dub-centric electronica. The deranged frequencies of "Conversations With Julian Dexter" by Grassy Knoll and supple drums of Red Snapper's eponymous hit maintain their experimental feel. A jazz synthesiser on "Black Jesus" by 9 Lazy 9 adds a little colour to proceedings, while the magnificent melancholia of Skylab's "Seashell" is the album's highlight. Dope On Plastic has come a long way but don't for a second believe it's beginnings were humble--it would prove difficult to find trip-hop more inventive. --George Lees"
