Well you could get one at this little development in Dubai.

“Prices start at £100,000 for a one-bedroom flat with a shared pool and go up to £3.8million for one of the 90,000 sq ft plots on the end of each frond.”

Brewer’s Droop affecting Cologne Sex Industry

Posted on June 23rd, 2006 at 11:33 pm

Full story from Reuters:

– Only high-profile brothels said their business was humming.

“The first few days have been a bit slow, but it has really picked up now,” said a spokesman for Pascha in Cologne, Europe’s largest brothel, declining to give his name. “We are working at 100 percent capacity and could do more if we had more space.”

“For us, soccer and sex go very well together,” he said. “In soccer there is always a winner and a loser. One needs a party, the other one needs consolation, and we can offer both.”

RIP Paul Gleason

Posted on May 29th, 2006 at 7:42 pm

“The next time I have to come in here I’m crackin’ skulls.”

US actor Paul Gleason, whose most famous roles included Trading Places and The Breakfast Club, has died of a rare form of lung cancer aged 67.

Richard Vernon: That’s the last time, Bender. That the last time you ever make me look bad in front of those kids, you hear me? I make $31,000 a year and I have a home and I’m not throwing it all away on some punk like you. But someday when you’re outta here and forgotten about this place and they forgotten about you, and you’re wrpped up in your own pathetic life, I’m gonna be there. That’s right. And I’m gonna kick the living shit out of you. I’m gonna knock your dick in the dirt.
Bender: You threating me?
Richard Vernon: What are you gonna do about it? You think anyone’s gonna believe you? You think anyone gonna take your word over mine? I’m a man of respect around here. They love me. I’m a swell guy. You’re a lying sack of monkey shit, and everyone knows about it. Oh, you’re a tough guy. Hey c’mon. Get on your feet pal! Let’s find out how tough you are. I wanna know how tough you are. Let’s go. C’mon man, just take the first shot. I’m begging you, take the first shot. Just take one good swing…
[Bender pauses, staring]
Richard Vernon: Yeah, that’s what I thought. You’re a gutless turd.

I’m not sure this is the way to do it

I think there’s quite a bit of hypocracy when you have an American court using the trial of Zacarias Moussaoui to discuss the human and emotional cost of 9/11. George Bush will never have to go through a similar trial in Baghdad to listen to witnesses talk about the human and emotional cost of losing their relatives during the war and current occupation of Iraq. It must be great being immune to prosecution for a possible illegal war. In this trial though I just can’t see the point in raking up all the feelings of New Yorkers in front of that man. Find him guilty and send him to the chair, I don’t mind, but reading out the names of the 2972 people who died that day seems wrong.

Environmental annoyance of the day: New Greenpeace research shows that McDonald’s are partners in forest crime that is creating a trail of destruction right into the heart of the Amazon rainforest. The chicken they sell is fed on soya grown in areas of the Amazon that have been illegally cleared. Check out this flash animation.

This week’s Good Telly!

Posted on March 6th, 2006 at 3:10 pm

I’ve not been watching much television since Christmas, there just hasn’t been anything on I’ve really felt the need to stay in and watch. Last night a programme came on that justified the license fee in one 50 minute shot. It was Planet Earth. You can watch some amazing sequences from that link, including the great white shark hunting a seal. Truely amazing televison.

Also this week is Michael Winterbottom’s The Road to Guantanamo (C4 Thursday 21:00) which shows a reconstruction of how the Tipton Three ended up in Cuba. I’m sure they have Mr Bush to thank for that.

And on this week’s Culture Show (BBC2 Thursday 19:00 - repeat 23:20) is an appearance by Alan Moore, the mysterious creator of Watchmen and V For Vendetta. He’s an amazing man and its quite weird to hear his brummie accent after you’ve read his works for so long.

Oh, and I wouldn’t like to advertise that nasty satelite channel which exclusively showed the Oscars last night to about 8 viewers but this real life advert for The Simpsons is very clever.
