Getting colder.

Posted on November 14th, 2007 at 5:36 pm

Today’s game is Dice Wars. It’s like a mini version of Risk where you have to roll higher than the territory you’re attacking. Good quick fun!

Today’s ‘everybody is stupid’ moment goes to the news that Camelot are withdrawing a scratch card game as it’s too confusing. Yes, it uses minus numbers to show cold temperatures and working out if you were colder or hotter proved a bit too much for some people.

Today’s bet was another of my crazy longshots. It’s a bet that Croatia don’t qualify from Euro 2008. They are currently top of the table with only two games to play but if Russia win both of their matches, Croatia lose against Macedonia and England beat Croatia next Wednesday then they don’t go through to the finals. It’s a long shot and it wasn’t even available at the normal betting sites. Therefore I took my first shot at using BetFair which is a totally different kind of betting site, called a betting exchange. Here you can place bets ‘against’ results as well and you can choose your odds from a selection. It’s not as complicated as it sounds. For a £25 stake (which was free with the offer I had) I stand to win over £600. Fingers crossed!

Today’s annoyance is Jacqui Smith, the Home Secretary, insisting that the War On Iraq has not increased the threat of terrorism. I feel so confident which such free thinkers in charge of the country.

Today’s mix tape comes from DJ Rocha with his Made Inn Radio Show mp3 mix - sorry about the RapidShare link. It’s a light deep tech-house mix with nothing too underground or experimental.

Today’s ha! comes from John Scalzi who reports back from the new Creation Museum somewhere in the US. “Every single thing on display in the Creation Museum is either caused by or a consequence of exactly three things: 1. The six-day creation; 2. Adam eating from the tree of life; 3. Noah’s flood.”

Well done to Alan Curbishley and the rest of the team. A magnificent start to the new Curbishley era.

Ladbrokes had the West Ham win at 6 to 1 and luckily I put a fiver on it. It was my last bit of money from my £200 Graeme Dott win earlier this year, although I have put a fiver for Andy Murray to win Wimbledon at 40 to 1. If you want to place a bet on a sporting event then just click the Ladbrokes button on the right of this screen.

Friday afternoon stuff.

I’ve been so busy since my last post working on a couple of amazing looking websites so here’s a week’s worth of posts in one big go.

The new Die Hard 4 teaser trailer:

The new man at Upton Park, Alan Curbishley. I think we’ll put 3 past Man Utd on Sunday.

It's a goal
Did you enjoy football manager games? Well if so then please sign up to the new free It’s A Goal multiplayer online manager game.
I’ve played the old It’s A Goal but this is new and improved. Just register at the site, look at your email and then click ‘club’ and create your team. I’m in Division 4 of the Manta league, team name Castle King FC.

Does anybody ever mention a music track and you just can’t remember how it goes? Well now you can using Music Plus. Just type in the name of the track and it’ll search the internet and bring you back and mp3s it finds in a handy online music player, there’s no downloads at all. So, for example, type in ‘Dury Wake’ and it’ll return Ian Dury’s Wake Up and Make Love To Me for you to play. A brilliant tool.

Do you need some cute animals? Well check out Panda Cam brought to you live from Atlanta Zoo.

Wow! Look at this photo of Saturn. Yes, it’s real. Taken during an eclipse from behind the planet. Earth is the small dot in between the rings at the top left.

And finally, the Mozilla Firefox 2.0 internet browser was released this week. It seems better than the older version and has less memory problems. So grab yourself a copy here.

The New Argus Website

Posted on September 2nd, 2006 at 2:12 pm

It’s good to see that The Argus has changed it’s website for the better. It now has a searchable news items, an RSS feed and permalinks. I might actually start reading it now.

Today’s news has a story on the artist Banksy who carried out some art attacks on Brighton music stores this week. “He took 500 copies of Paris Hilton’s debut album, Paris, and given them his own unique makeover…. On the front there is a sticker which claims her latest singles include “Why Am I Famous?”, “What Have I Done?” and “What Am I For?”… A picture of Paris behind the CD has replaced her head with that of her pet dog and the inlay card which features lyrics to her songs has slogans such as “Every CD you buy puts me even further out of your league” emblazoned across it. One picture has been replaced to show Paris getting out of a car next to a number of homeless people with the slogan “90per cent of success is just showing up.” - Read the whole story here.

It’s also good to see West Ham united on the back and front pages of many newspapers this morning due to the rumours of a Russian buy-out. The Sun lead with “I’m forever blowing Roubles” and had Tony Gale describing the new players as “the two biggest bombshells to hit the East End since the Luftwaffe.“. There a good article in the Independent too. Personally I think West Ham is undervalued at the moment and when the regeneration hits Newham in time for the 2012 Olympics the club could be worth a few more quid. Good business.

New West Ham Signings

Posted on August 31st, 2006 at 12:48 pm

It seems too good to be true but the news is that West Ham United have signed Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano from Corinthians.

From The Guardian: “The move is nothing short of sensational: never before have two world-class players yet to reach their prime - both are only 22 - rejected a host of elite clubs in order to join a middling one. However, while it true that West Ham are on the up with Alan Pardew at the helm and exciting talents such as Anton Ferdinand, Yossi Benayoun and Nigel Reo-Coker .

It is unquestionably a major coup for Pardew and gives last season’s FA Cup runners-up one of the most impressive-looking squads in the Premiership.”

Oh, and from YouTube here’s a cute panda.

Congratulations Italy! Commiserations Me

Posted on July 9th, 2006 at 8:58 pm

Gah! £100 slipped through my fingers just like the Italian penalty kicks through Bartez’s. I came close a couple of times to making some money this tournament. I had Luca Toni to be the top scorer but he just wasn’t on fire, even if his team did just win the World Cup. The £8 on France to win at 12-1 was a close one too. Notice how I didn’t put any money on Brazil or Argentina to win, not that it helped.

So congratulazioni to Italy! Winners of the 2006 World Cup!
